Become an Umpire 2020 Season
UMPIRE INFORMATION – 2020
Welcome to the 2020 Season!
I am pleased to join Newton Canadian Baseball as the Senior Umpire in Chief for the upcoming season. Please email me (contact info below) to confirm you are returning for the 2020 season (or if you are a new umpire, wanting to attend our clinic).
Minimum birth year is 2008.
Clinic dates and registration
New umpires: Please register with BCBUA (www.bcbua.ca). Select the “Registration” tab (BCBUA Registration), and fill out the required information. Log in, and register for a clinic under the “Clinics” tab.
Returning umpires: Sign in to your BCBUA account, renew your membership, and register for a clinic under the “Clinics” tab.
If you have umpired for 3 years or more, you are encouraged to register for the Level 2 clinic at one of the local clinics offered by BCBUA (https://members.bcbua.ca/?pg=clinics), the Newton clinic is Saturday February 29, 2020 for both Level 1 and Level 2 at Kinvig Elementary
If you are a new umpire, and were born in 2007 or 2008, please sign up for our level one clinic, which will primarily cover “non-leadoff” baseball (Mosquito and Tadpole)
If you are a returning umpire, and were born in 2006 or earlier, please sign up for the level two clinic. This clinic will cover “lead-off” baseball (Pee-Wee and above).
Clinic dates fill up quickly; please register as soon as possible.
BCBUA Membership fees are $35 for youth umpires (13 and under), and $65 for other umpires.
Game Allocators:
Junior Men’s, Midget AAA and Midget AA – TBD.
Pee Wee to Bantam – Margaret Waddell
Tadpole (Summer ball) and Mosquito – TBD
Umpire assignments will be done primarily by email through the scheduler system as happened last year. Assignments will be given out and the umpire will have 48 hours to accept or reject the assignment. Otherwise, the assignment may be moved to another umpire. Once accepted, an assignment is expected to be fulfilled unless there is a very good explanation. Giving up an assignment for insufficient reason may result in the loss of future game assignments.
CAP | Caps bearing the BCBUA logo |
SHIRTS | Black or Light Blue shirts bearing the BCBUA logo |
Pants | Gray (preferred), or black. No jeans or shorts |
Shoes | Black (no metal cleats) |
Socks | Black |
Plate umpire equipment will be provided at the park and umpires are encouraged to get their own masks for sanitary reasons. Newton association provides the umpire shirt, hat and a ball bag kit to new umpires, provided they umpire at least 4 games. Anyone umpiring Bantam games or above should use their own equipment.
Please do your best to arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled start time. Feel free to email or phone me if you have any further questions. I’m looking forward to a great season and to working with you all.
